Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have seen a significant rise in popularity and media attention in recent years and are considered to offer substantial potential in addressing both climate and nuclear-related challenges.
Despite this, the topic is relatively new to many, and there is a lot of fragmented information about what the field actually entails, what the technology can offer, and what is needed to realize its potential.
For these reasons, AFRY Nuclear Academy experts have developed this introductory course on the topic of small modular reactors.
The course covers the following topics:
- Introduction – Nuclear Power Today
- SMR – What do the words Small, Modular, and Reactor mean?
- Why choose SMR?
- Challenges – What obstacles are there?
- Global development and outlook
- Discussion and Summary
The course is 3 hours long and takes place online through MS Teams.
Target audience

However, the course is open to anyone interested, and all are welcome to participate. As this is an introductory course, no prior knowledge of SMR or nuclear power is required.
